Are You Losing Touch With Your Teenagers? Get Them Back With GetAssist!

One family’s story of how a GetAssist Social Membership brought them together.

I am a mom to six kids, 4 of whom are teenagers, teenage girls to be exact. Teenage girls don’t particularly love sharing with their mothers every detail of their lives, let alone their plans. At the beginning of this summer, life had become busy, as in crazy busy. My twins both started their first job, but never worked the same hours. My oldest had driver’s training and is a social butterfly. New regular doctor’s appointments became necessary for one. And another had rec softball. Never mind the fact that I run a business full-time out of my home! I needed to do something to stay in touch with my crew and keep all the balls of our crazy existence in the air.

I created a FREE, safe and private Family Community on GetAssist. I had each of my kids create a login and asked them to add all of their events. This made scheduling anything beyond their commitments a dream. All I had to do is check out our shared calendar (which also sync’s with Google calendar), or pull up the GetAssist app on my phone and swipe through the most recent current events to see if I would be available to drive them to the next big thing. Then we added that to the events!

But, what happened by happy accident, is my girls started engaging with each other and with me. Using the Bulletin Board feature they shared things like funny memes from shows they have fandoms with, or asked for feedback on writing for a contest. I am now able to pass down important communication in a fun way for all of them to see when I need to reinforce rules or just want to tell them I love them… And I can show I value their opinions with the polling feature. For my younger kids, it has been a great introduction to using social media to communicate in a healthy and purposeful way.

With back-to-school coming, I am so glad that we have a system in place to keep in touch and manage our hectic schedule.
